America's third smallest state, Connecticut, often doesn't strike most as a bustling tourist destination but beneath the surface the state has a lot to offer. The state borders the Long Island Sound and has strong nautical traditions. The town of Mystic has a lively seaport with lots of shops and restaurants as well as an aquarium.
Riverboat rides throughout the state are also popular with visitors and if you're in Fairfield make sure to visit the Arena at Harbor Yard. If you visit in the warmer months, (Connecticut has a climate similar to New York), make sure to visit one of its many beaches.
Feeling lucky? Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun are the perfect spots for gambling, fine dining and nightlife. History buffs will love Connecticut's 18th and 19th Century sites such as Wadsworth Mansion, The Harrison House and the Nathan Hale Homestead. For more of a modern feel, visit cities like Stamford, Hartford and New Haven.
